Communications Division

The Communications Division is the nerve center and life-line of the RPD. Each dispatcher plays a vital part in the overall mission of the RPD.  Dispatch provides 24-hour service with each dispatcher rotating on 12-hour shifts. This Division is responsible for handling inquiries involving police, fire, and medical emergencies; receiving emergency and routine calls for service; dispatching police, fire and emergency medical units; operating a computer-aided dispatch system; making inquiries and entries through local, state, and federal information computer systems; operating RPD computers using word processing and other programs; and monitoring people in police custody via surveillance camera.  All dispatchers are also sworn Deputy Clerks of the Municipal Court.
