The Patrol Division is the largest and most visible division of the RPD. The men and women of the Patrol Division are seen daily behind the wheel of marked patrol cars responding to calls for assistance from the public, investigating traffic crashes, performing neighborhood and business patrols, and maintaining order and peace within the City.
Patrol is the backbone of the RPD and our “front-line ambassadors” to the City. The Patrol Division provides 24-hour coverage, with officers rotating on 12-hour shifts, to ensure that the citizens can enjoy living and working in a safe, secure, and peaceful city. The responsibilities of this Division include responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; enforcing state laws, as well as City ordinances; conducting initial investigations and evidence collecting; investigating traffic crashes; responding to alarms; maintaining a secure atmosphere for public events; preparing cases and giving courtroom testimony; maintaining proper traffic control and flow throughout the City; and enforcement of traffic laws.
